For Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is the “one”.
Salceda spoiled what could have been a surprise announcement by President Aquino when he revealed that the chief executive has already chosen Roxas as the Liberal Party’s standard-bearer in the 2016 elections.
The governor, who is LP’s regional chairman in Bicol, said Roxas called him last Wednesday, July 29, from a meeting in Cubao, Quezon City, to inform him that the President had “given the go signal.”
Salceda said the formal announcement will be made at 9 am Friday, July 31, at the historic Club Filipino in San Juan, the same venue where PNoy’s mother, the late President Cory Aquino, took her oath office in 1986 at the height of the Edsa Revolution.
The Albay governor added that LP members, mostly governors, congressmen, city and town mayors are being invited together with civil society organizations.
“I am still hoping that Grace Poe will agree to be Mar’s running mate,” the Albay chief executive said.
Salceda said he is expecting Roxas to leave the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to concentrate on his campaign.
He believes that the anointment of Roxas by the President would improve his rating from 13 percent to 16 percent.
