Lipa mayor denies hand in ‘One Dream’ investment scam

Jul 23, 2015 @ 4:24

The camp of Lipa City Mayor Meynardo Sabili has denied any involvement in the P3-billion investment scam allegedly perpetrated by One Dream Global Marketing, Inc.

Speaking in behalf of Sabili, City Administrator Leo Latildo dismissed persistent reports that the mayor tried to extort money from Arnel Gacer, reportedly the president and chief executive officer of One Dream.

Latildo clarified that Sabili called up Dacer to stop the company’s operations after investors started complaining that they were not being paid their earnings as promised.

“The mayor even accompanied the victims to the DoJ (Department of Justice) to file their complaints,” Latildo said.

There were also reports that the mayor received a check from Gacer’s mother-in-law, Linda De Guzman, as initial payment to several investors.

“Ang mag-e-encash po noon ay si Linda de Guzman. Nang bumalik po s’ya, ang dala lang niya ay less than P500,000 out of P1 million. E siyempre naman po alangan namang tanggapin ‘yun; magkakagulo lang ang tao,” Latillo pointed out.

Several victims of One Dream had lodged syndicated estafa complaint against Gacer and other officers of the investment firm, who have since gone into hiding.

Under the firm’s scheme, a “pay-in” of P888, which is equivalent to pen slot, will result in an “exit” or “pay-out” of P1,300 after four days.

Additionally, the company offered a P44 per slot as commission for every direct referral. But the company suddenly closed on July 11.
