Helen Tan hears proposed benefits for COVID-19 medical frontliners
Quezon Rep. Helen Tan last week presided over a committee hearing to tackle various measures that seek to provide additional benefits to health workers who put their lives on the line amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tan, chair of the House health committee, pushed for the creation of a technical working group to consolidate various measures that seek to grant hazard pay, special compensation, special risk allowance, medical coverage, and other benefits to medical personnel and other essential workers both in the public and private sectors during public health emergencies.
The proposed benefits will be on top of the benefits that are currently provided under existing laws and regulations such as the “Magna Carta of Public Health Workers”.
During the hearing, the committee also approved various resolutions that seek to express the highest appreciation and profound gratitude of the House of Representatives to all healthcare workers and frontliners in the fight against COVID-19.
“I wish to emphasize, with great pride, that Filipino health workers have been recognized in other countries, practically the world over, for their heroic deeds. The essential role of Filipino health workers and frontliners cannot be overemphasized. We cannot thank them enough for their sacrifices for humanity,” Tan said.
