Dapat may deadline: Jun Ynares explains why he didn’t seek 3rd term

Jul 21, 2019 @ 13:44

Not a lot of residents were surprised when Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares decided to forego running for a third term in favor of his wife Andeng.

In his July 21 column for Manila Bulletin, Ynares said he wanted to give himself a timeline in which to fulfill the vision he had for Antipolo.

He used the analoogy of students being asked to pass their test papers to explain his decision not to run in the May 2019 elections.

“Finished or not finished, pass your paper. The lesson was meant to instill in us the reality that time would not wait for us. We cannot dilly-dally, we have to make the most of what time would allow us to. I did. I finished what I had to. I passed my paper,” he said.

Despite taking a backseat in politics, Ynares continues to play an active role at the city hall, helping Andeng with her duties as mayor.
