Sa wakas! Construction of LRT-1 extension to Cavite starts after 20 years
Construction of the Light Rail Transit-1 extension to Cavite finally started on Tuesday, close to two decades after the project was approved by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
Department of Transportation (DOTr) officials led by Secretary Arthur Tugade attended the formal start of construction works at Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City.
The 11.7-kilometer extension will add eight stations from Baclaran: Redemptorist, MIA, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, Dr. Santos, Las Piñas, Zapote and Niog.
The DOTr aims to start partial operations of the LRT-1 extension’s first five stations by the last quarter of 2021.
Once completed, the extension will reduce travel time from Cavite to Baclaran from 1 hour and 10 minutes to 25 minutes.
