Danilo Suarez urges BOC, BIR to implement Attrition Law
Quezon 3rd District Representative Danilo Suarez on September 5 called on the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to consider implementing the Lateral Attrition Law.
Under Republic Act No. 9335, or the Attrition Act of 2005, officials and employees of the BIR and BOC who fail to meet their collection targets by at least 7.5 percent will be removed from office.
The law also gives incentives to the agency if it exceeds its target.
Suarez said implementing the law will help BIR and BOC be consistent in achieving their collection targets every year.
“We have been urging DOF Secretary Sonny Dominguez to fully implement the existing law since the start of the Duterte administration. The Finance department has been working on the amendments of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the law since 2016. The question is, why are they taking so long?” he asked.
