Dagupan Mayor Fernandez eyes big-time projects for 2017

Dec 23, 2016 @ 12:14

With 2017 just a few days away, Dagupan Mayor Belen Fernandez is eyeing big-time projects like the Waste-to-Worth project in Bonuan Binloc and a new government center on a yet undisclosed area as part of the efforts to develop the city.

The lady politiko said she is waiting for the approval of the new Comprehensive Land Use Plan of Dagupan has given enough leeway to the city to implement more big projects.

She added the Waste-To-Worth project will be a big boon to the city as it could finally solve the long nagging garbage problem of Dagupan by converting municipal wastes into diesel fuel.

The project is now almost a done-deal after a two-hectare area of the Tondaligan National Park where the project will rise has already been segregated per a proclamation signed by then President Benigno Aquino III before he left office.

The Waste-to-Worth project has the backing of Procter and Gamble Philippines, the U.S. State Department, the Asian Development Bank and many other international institutions.

Meanwhile, Fernandez said she will concentrate on the putting of a new government center or the city hall next year.

She hinted the city may obtain loans from the bank in order to finance the new government center since funds of the city will not be enough for the project.

However, she could not tell yet where the new city hall will rise as she will still consult with other officials of the city.

There were suggestions she received this year that the new city hall should be put up beside the Jose de Venecia Sr. Expressway in Barangay Pantal.

The city may buy the lot or it may be donated by a private citizen.

She also assured that an SM Mall will definitely rise at the Pantranco Terminal in Dagupan City.

The Dagupan mayor said the public utility buses and vans using the property as a terminal are moving to other areas within the city starting January next year.
