A Pangasinan politiko denied a series of rumors that he was a protector of drug personalities and that he burned down a sitio in his city.

Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Gregorio ‘Bobom’ Perez IV said that there were people spreading lies that he and his father (former MECO chairman Amadeo R. Perez Jr.) were picked up by the police for being protectors of illegal drugs.

“Pinupulitika kami,” Perez said over a local radio station on rumors saying that they were picked up by the police, brought to Camp Crame and that vice mayor Julio ‘Rammy’ Parayno III was installed by the DILG as acting mayor.

He said that he has been reporting for work daily and even presided over the mass surrender of 1,177 drug personalities in the presence of PDEA director general Isidro Lapeña who is a native of Urdaneta City.

Perez also said that there was no truth to a report that 30 houses in an informal settlement in Barangay Camantiles were burned.

Sitio Darasulam in Camantiles is on PDEA’s list of hot spots for illegal drugs in the city.

He said that the informal settlers in the area had a memorandum of agreement with the city and barangay officials to voluntarily dismantle their shanties.
