Kimi won by 2,931 votes in the towns of Sison and Santo Tomas but lost by 39,902 votes in Urdaneta City, Alcala, Bautista, Villasis, Binalonan, Laoac and Pozorrubio.
A Politiko source said that Kimi cried and got mad. She was counting on 5th District mayors Bobom Perez, Pao Mencias, Nato Abrenica, Mon-Mon Guico, Boying Alarcio, Art Chan, Mina Joy Pangasinan and Dick Villar to deliver the votes for her.
Kimi, a former mayor of Sison won in her town but its incumbent Mayor Mina Joy Pangasinan lost to Board Member Danny Uy.
The source said that Kimi lost because this was her first time to have a real opponent who had well-oiled machinery.
“Dating Congressman si Gov, alam niya ang pulitika sa isang congressional fight. Parating may langis ang makinarya ni Gov hanggang sa barangay. Si Cong Kimi kapag fiesta lang nagpapakita. Kapag may program eh late pa dumarating,” the source said.
Kimi’s husband, Mark, lost in his bid for governor.
The source said that the husband and wife have accepted their loss and added that this is a humbling experience for the Cojuangcos.
