No irregularity in P1M Baguio X’mas tree, says mayor
Baguio City mayor Mauricio Domogan assured the public that the 40-foot Christmas tree project along Session Road underwent strict bidding process.
Domogan was reacting to criticisms that the giant Christmas tree was overpriced considering that its design and the materials used to build it seemed so simple and cheap, compared to the old one last year.
“I would like to assure our constituents na walang kalokohan na nangyari, this was bidded out,” the Baguio mayor was quoted in a Sunstar report.
Domogan pointed out that it depends on one’s view if the Christmas tree is beautiful or not.
If there are questions on the general design and look of the tree, the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) should be asked, as they were behind the creation of the tree, he said.
According to reports, the Christmas tree project costs over P1 million and was solely done by the winning bidder, the UAP, under the auspices of Councilor Elmer Datuin.
Datuan chairs the committee on tourism.
Domogan said the UAP had to hasten the completion of the tree in time for the ceremonial lighting on December 1.
