Irate Baguio mayor fires building contractor
You don’t mess with Baguio City mayor Mauricio Domogan.
Domogan has fired the contractor of a three-storey school building project for its failure to finish the work on time.
The mayor complained that DWD Construction and Services did not meet the deadline to complete the project at the Baguio City National High School. It won the contract on December 19, 2012.
According to Domogan, the building was supposed to be finished in 105 days.
When it lapsed, the city government gave the contractor another 86 days to complete the construction work.
“Despite said extension, the firm did not finish the project. A series of inspections has been done and the later inspection conducted on July 27, 2015 showed the company has only 97.32 percent accomplishment,” the mayor was quoted as saying in a Sunstar report.
“The contract ended actually in August 2014 which is more than one year from the present and the firm did not do anything to complete the said project,” he added.
With this, Domogan said he has cancelled the city government’s contract with DWD.
