Salceda frowns on Chiz vs. Leni fight for VP. Here’s why
Albay Governor Joey Salceda is apparently upset over the prospect of Senator Francis Escudero facing off with fellow Bicolano, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, in the vice presidential race in 2016.
In a Facebook post made public on Thursday (Sept. 17), Salceda said a fight between two Bicolanos for the same post is not advisable “unless it involves game-changing reasons.”
“Chiz runs for VP of Grace Poe. That trumps Leni since it is not good for a Bicolano to fight another Bicolano to fight another Bicolano unless it involves game-changing reasons,” he said.
Escudero, who hails from Sorsogon, officially declared his plan to run for vice president on Thursday morning. He will be running alongside Poe as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, Robredo has been shortlisted as a possible running mate of administration standard bearer Interior Secretary Mar Roxas though she has said she’s not interested in taking up the Liberal Party’s (LP) offer.
Salceda, an LP stalwart, believes Bicolanos will root for one of their own in the upcoming elections.
“Definitely, whether you like it or not, Bicolanos will vote for another Bicolano. Non-Bicolano candidates can only mitigate the impact,” he said.
