Former First Lady and now Ilocos Norte 2nd District Rep. Imelda Marcos is still hopeful the government will grant her late husband Ferdinand Marcos a hero’s burial.

“I’m wishing and praying that he be given the ultimate honorable burial. But I hope that soon the Lord will grant this,” Mrs. Marcos was quoted by Manila Bulletin.

The former First Lady spoke at Marcos’ 98th birth anniversary celebration at the Immaculate Concepcion Church in Bagac, Ilocos Norte on Friday, September 12.

She was joined by her children Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, and Irene Marcos-Araneta; and her five grandsons.

“I’m so happy many people arrived this morning. The fact that Ferdinand had been dead for almost three decades, still people travel 12 hours to come to Ilocos Norte to greet Ferdie,” she said.

She reiterated her husband deserves a state burial as a former president and World War II bemedalled veteran.

Marcos’ cadaver remains preserved at an airconditioned mausoleum in Bagac City after his death on September 28, 1989 in Hawaii.
