GMA seeks 4-hour furlough to attend brod’s ‘40 Days’

Sep 8, 2015 @ 8:23

Former president and incumbent Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is again asking the Sandiganbayan to allow her to leave her detention center, this time to attend the 40th day commemoration of the death of her brother, Arturo Dela Rosa Macapagal.

Arroyo asked a four-hour furlough, from 10am to 2pm on September 19, so she could attend a mass for her brother at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.

“President Arroyo respectfully seeks the permission of the Honorable Court to attend the 40th day Mass, the inurnment and the post-inurnment prayers for her late brother,” Arroyo’s motion to the Sandiganbayan 5th Division read.

On the same day, Arroyo informed the court that the ashes of her brother will also be inurned or laid to rest at the Heritage Memorial Park to be followed by post-inurnment prayers.

The detained lawmaker pointed out that Macapagal’s family decided at the last-minute to defer his inurnment scheduled on August 15 and instead have it coincide with the 40th day of his death.

Macapagal passed away on August 11 due to stage four prostate cancer.

. “The 40th day is meaningful to Filipinos since it holds out the most important promise of all: that the deceased will meet his Maker,” Arroyo added.

Arroyo is facing a plunder case in connection with the alleged misuse of P366-million worth of funds from state lottery firm, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) during her term as President.

She is under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City since 2012.
