Leni: No ill-feelings on Poe

Sep 4, 2015 @ 1:33

Camarines Sur 3rd District Rep. Leni Robredo has denied harboring ill-feelings against Senator Grace Poe.

Robredo, the widow of the late Interior secretary Jesse Robredo, said some people are just pitting them against each other.

“I’m not out to target her…I was just answering questions,” the lawmaker said of her recent statements against Poe, as quoted in an Inquirer story.

Robredo had said Poe should not run for President because she had renounced her Filipino citizenship to become an American citizen.

Robredo also took exception to Poe’s comparison of her citizenship issue with that of her husband, Jesse.

“I feel that the citizenship issue is not just a technicality for someone seeking the presidency. This is not about her being a foundling,” Robredo, a lawyer and economist, pointed out.

She said she believes Poe must explain to the public the details of her dual citizenship before considering running for the highest position in the government.

Both Robredo and Poe are being asked by the Liberal Party to run in tandem with standard-bearer Mar Roxas.

Outside Poe’s citizenship, Robredo said she did not know the senator well enough to comment on whether she thought Poe would make a good President, if elected.

As for her own plans in 2016, she said she did not want to run for Vice President, but was now more open to the possibility of a run for a Senate seat.
