Caloocan councilor dares colleagues to undergo drug test

Sep 1, 2015 @ 1:36

Caloocan City councilor Roberto “Obet” Samson has a challenge to his fellow elected officials in the city: undergo drug test.

“Well, there’s no harm in trying, so to speak,” Samson was quoted in a Daily Tribune report.

The councilor said undergoing drug test is an effective way for the city leaders to prove their integrity to those who voted for them.

Samson admitted his proposal might not be acceptable to many because of the Supreme Court decision that struck down a provision under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act that required drug tests for bets for public office.

Even candidates running for election next year should also submit themselves to drug testing, he added.

“If they refuse to undergo drug test, then it would be now easier for the local voters to decide who they should elect,” Samson pointed out.

He said he has been receiving reports that many village officials in the city have been involved in illegal drugs, either as users or traffickers.
