Pangasinan should have own FM radio station, board member proposes
A member of the provincial board of Pangasinan wants to put up a 24-hour FM radio station in the province for the exclusive use of the provincial government.
Board member Sheila Marie Perez-Galicia said the station will be of good use in information dissemination, particularly on important announcements during bad weather such as class suspensions.
In filing Provincial Resolution No. 1463-2015, Galicia underscored “the importance of information in a developing province like Pangasinan and that modernization can only be achieved through effective communication.”
Galicia also noted that the radio station can be a good “tool for promotion of good governance” by keeping the public informed.
The FM radio, she proposed, should be set up within the Capitol Complex and on-air 24/7.
Galicia’s proposal urges Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) to authorize Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. to negotiate with the Philippine Broadcasting Service-Bureau of Broadcast Services (PBS-BBS) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for the establishment the FM radio station in the province.
