“Word war” of Porac politikos heats up

Jul 22, 2015 @ 6:23

Porac, Pampanga Councilor and Ex-Officio Board member Mike Tapang criticized Vice Mayor Dexter David for defending Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz on issues hounding the local executive department.

Tapang reminded Dela Cruz that he is the presiding officer of the municipal council, not a “lawyer” of Dela Cruz.

“I respect Vice Mayor Dexter very much but he should remember that he is the presiding officer of the Sangguniang Bayan. The mayor is more than capable of speaking and defending himself,” Tapang said.

David has turned down Tapang’s challenge to engage him and the mayor in a televised debate on the issue of transparency and accountability.

Tapang, a mayoralty aspirant, made the challenge after the mayor and vice mayor accused him of delaying the approval of the supplemental budget requested by the mayor.

“We have reached that call for a debate because the mayor has not been very transparent even with what he is saying to the media,” Tapang said, adding that the debate will force the mayor to show documents on the issues they have raised.

Tapang said that it is difficult to believe that the current administration is transparent when Dela Cruz has issued an executive order to all department heads of the municipal government preventing them from issuing pertinent documents without the authorization of the mayor.

Tapang also brushed aside doubts of his plans for 2016. He declared that he will surely run for mayor in 2016.

“Those who are set to run for mayor have the right to question the current administration on what they are doing with the management of the town,” Tapang said, adding that he is questioning what “he thinks are problems in the Dela Cruz administration.”
